Firebasket with ‘winejug’ andirons. (2002)

.

This very wide fireplace in a late 16th century manor house, was split in two in order to reduce smoking and to provide wood storage. The large rivetted canopy reduced the fireplace aperture still further and the proportions thus created allowed the fire to function well, which had not been the case previously.
