Clockwork Barbeque

Clockwork Barbeque

.

Clockwork Barbecue. (1999-2000)

This commission  started out as a rectangle with a dot in the middle, scrawled on the back of an envelope, representing a conventional spit jack; the final result, which owed more to a grandfather clock than to a spit jack in terms of the mechanism, was entirely hand made apart from the bearing races upon which the various shafts turned, and could run for 30 minutes between remounts. It was self coloured/ hot waxed, with some graphited elements on the fire dogs and structure of the fireplace.
