Large bird feeder. (2008)

Commissioned by the family of a keen bird watcher as a mark of their appreciation for the excellent care she had received in her nursing home during her last few years. The feeder was large because it had to be situated on some low ground in the homes' garden and the aim was for it to be observable from the residents' dayroom. The feeder was therefore forged out of tube, in order to keep the weight down; the 'dragons' back' on the top loop was to enable the hooks to be positioned, rather than just sliding around.  The first image is a general view; the second shows some of the tailed hooks on which the bird food was to be hung; the third shows how the tool worked for getting the hooks on and off the 'dragons' back'; the fourth image shows how the tool was to be stowed, spiralling around the bottom of the pole, when not in use.

Stainless steel and bronze stepping stones (2002)

Originally commissioned as a small bridge, this series of stainless concentric rings - supported from an a frame at the bottom of the pool (suspended from the banks) - permitted access across the pool in a succinct, if occasionally perilous,  fashion.  When the water level is maintained at the correct level the 'stones' deflect downward to kiss the surface of the water as the pedestrian crosses, thus creating concentric ripples in the water which seem to form an extension of the steel rings.
